The arrival of Thomas Tuchel in the middle of last season proved to be a game-changer for Roman Abramovich and Chelsea. Not only did they secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, but they also clinched their second European Cup triumph.
In the previous season’s final, Chelsea emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Manchester City, and they now aspire to join the elite group of clubs who have successfully retained the trophy. The recent signing of Romelu Lukaku for a staggering £97.5 million serves as a clear statement that Chelsea will not easily surrender their title. As the Champions League group-stage draw approaches, Chelsea fans should keep an eye out for potential opponents from Pots 1-4.
Who can Chelsea face in the Champions League draw?
Pot 1: Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Lille, Sporting Libson (Chelsea, Manchester City)
Chelsea are seeded in Pot 1, so will not face any of the seven other teams.
Pot 2: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, PSG, Liverpool, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea will not be paired with Manchester United or Liverpool due to Uefa regulations prohibiting two teams from the same association from playing each other at this level. As a result, Chelsea will go up against one of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, Sevilla, or Dortmund.
Pot 3: FC Porto, Ajax, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Zenit, Benfica
Two teams are yet to be confirmed but Chelsea will be able to face any of the teams from Pot 3.
Pot 4:Club Brugge, Young Boys, AC Milan, Malmo, Wolfsburg.
Three teams have not been confirmed yet, however Chelsea will have the opportunity to compete against any of the teams from Pot 4.
