Cowboys suffered their fourth consecutive defeat at home, falling to Lions

In a stunning display of dominance, the Detroit Lions dismantled the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, extending the Cowboys’ home losing streak to four games. The decisive victory showcased the Lions’ offensive firepower and defensive tenacity, while exposing the Cowboys’ vulnerabilities. This crushing defeat has raised serious questions about the Cowboys’ playoff aspirations and the future of their coaching staff.

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott recorded 178 passing yards, failing to secure any touchdowns while throwing two interceptions in the game against Detroit on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys suffered a significant defeat at home, losing 47-9 to the Detroit Lions, marking their fourth consecutive home loss since the previous postseason.

This match served as a revenge opportunity for the Lions, who had previously fallen to Dallas 20-19 late last season due to a procedural penalty that negated a potential game-winning two-point conversion.

Detroit’s quarterback, Jared Goff, demonstrated remarkable efficiency, completing 18 of 25 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns. He was supported by a strong rushing performance that contributed 184 yards and two additional touchdowns.

The contest was essentially decided by halftime, with the Lions establishing a commanding 27-6 advantage after the first two quarters. This outcome continues a troubling pattern for the Cowboys, who have been significantly outscored 110-35 in the first halves of their last four home games. Although Dallas boasted an undefeated home record of 8-0 during the previous regular season, they have struggled at home since their defeat in the divisional round against the Green Bay Packers.

Detroit capitalized on a depleted Dallas defense, particularly excelling in their ground game. Prior to their final offensive series, the Lions were averaging over 5 yards per carry on 32 rushing attempts and nearly 8 yards per play overall.

Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs formed a formidable duo, combining for 24 carries and 143 rushing yards. Montgomery’s physical style of play was particularly noteworthy, exemplified during Detroit’s first touchdown when he carried a defender with him into the end zone.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott faced significant challenges during the game, completing only 178 passing yards without any touchdowns and throwing two interceptions before being replaced in the fourth quarter. Additionally, he was sacked four times.

This marked the third occasion this season where Prescott has thrown two interceptions in a single game. In his three home games this season, he has managed only three touchdowns, while accumulating four interceptions.

As a result of this defeat, the Cowboys have fallen to third place in the NFC East, trailing the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.

The Lions improved their record to 4-1, yet they remain behind the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North standings. Unfortunately, they also suffered the loss of star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson to an injury in the second half, where he appeared to sustain a leg fracture during a sack.

The Lions are scheduled to face the Vikings in Week 7.

Dallas will have a bye next week before their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on October 27.

Following the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was questioned about the possibility of a coaching change.

“I haven’t even considered that,” Jones stated regarding the potential for moving on from Mike McCarthy. “I’m not considering that, so you’re clear.”
