Centre-back Yoro had attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Real Madrid, during the summer transfer window.

Ultimately, he opted for United and signed a five-year contract following a £52m transfer from French side Lille.

Yoro received a social media message from Ferdinand welcoming him to Old Trafford. In an interview with the club’s media, the 18-year-old revealed that the former England international had reached out to him directly.

“He gave me a call two weeks ago,” Yoro said.

“We had a 10-minute conversation about Manchester United, and he provided valuable insights that helped me make my decision.”

“He mainly discussed the club’s history and expectations. He emphasized the need to fight for the club and be prepared, as Manchester United is the biggest club in the world.”

“It was a great discussion.”

Yoro made a strong impression during his debut in the pre-season win against Rangers at Murrayfield.

In terms of playing style, Yoro sees similarities between himself and Ferdinand, who made a £29.1m move from Leeds to United 22 years ago.

“In modern football, it’s crucial to read the game,” he explained.

“Understanding the opponent is key, and I focus on that aspect. Additionally, I feel confident with the ball at my feet. I’m not afraid to take risks.”
